Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year eBook : Esiri, Allie Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year eBook : Esiri, Allie

Read by Simon Russell Beale, Helen McCrory, Damian Lewis, Paapa Essiedu, Jade Anouka, Hattie Morahan, Ben Allen, Jot Davies and Allie Esiri Confesso che non tutti i brani mi sono piaciuti e, in alcuni casi, ho trovato la scelta dell’estratto strana. William Shakespeare wrote thirty seven plays, one hundred and fifty four sonnets and a handful of longer poems and you can discover them all here. A magnificent collection of 365 passages from Shakespeare’s works, for the Shakespeare scholar and neophyte alike. Beautifully produced, this is something to wallow in. Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year does precisely what it says on the tin; three hundred and sixty five extracts from Shakespeare for every day of the year. It cover "sonnets, soliloquies, quotes and extracts" and rather delightfully pairs these with a little note of introduction for the relevant time of the year. So, for example, February 14th sees sonnet 29 "When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes" and a paragraph talking about how Valentine's Day was handled in Shakespeare's, er, day. April 1st sees a witty extract from As You Like It whilst November 5th sees Macbeth and Lady Macbeth discuss their plot to bring down the King. From Allie Esiri, editor of the bestselling A Poem for Every Day of the Year and A Poem for Every Night of the Year, comes this beautiful gift anthology of Shakespeare's works. A magnificent collection of 365 passages from Shakespeare's works, for the Shakespeare scholar and neophyte alike. The book also includes synopses of each play, a comprehensive timeline covering Shakespeare's life, major historical events and offering context for his works, and an index of works which gathers the extracts under the title of the work they come from. S Magazine - Sunday Express Experience tells me that the best book presents are sentimental or serendipitous. Having a poem to read every day sweetened the passing of time, and with its hoard of immortal wisdom, the collection was a handrail to hold onto whenever I felt wobbly. Each day has a small excerpt from a famous Shakespeare play or poem which makes it enjoyable and not overwhelming.

I really loved the focus on pieces of all Shakespeare's plays and poems. Each snippet of his writing is quote along with a few interesting facts and discussion. Very easy to digest in these daily, bite-size pieces. I got this book from good reads first reads. It has been most enjoyable having a little Shakespeare every day. The selected passages are not too long and the front runner asides before each were also enjoyable. It is fun to see the seasons through the different days and works. A good selection. Perfect for reading or sharing, this anthology brings you Shakespeare's best-known and best-loved classics alongside less well-worn extracts. With Allie Esiri's entertaining and insightful thoughts on each entry, this book will fill your year with wonder, laughter, wisdom and wit.🎭 A magnificent collection of 365 passages from Shakespeare's works for the Shakespeare scholar and neophyte alike.Make Shakespeare a part of your daily routine with Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year a yearlong collection of passages from Shakespeare's greatest works. What a wonderful way to fill your life with Shakespeare! In Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year, you get a new quote from Shakespeare a day - obviously. Some correlate to the day itself Of course March 15th would not be complete with the quote "beware the Ides of March," but other days are filled with delightful bits of prose that are not as well known but equally perfect none the less.

We loved Esiri's Poem for Every Day of the Year and Poem for Every Night of the Year, and we're huge Shakespeare fans, so we were all excited for Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year. The changing of seasons often signals a changing of gear for Shakespeare, and the transition from summer to winter brings as much foreboding as the summer’s return after winter brings hope. His characters and their imaginary landscape move in perfect synchronicity. Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, muses on the transience of joy in terms of the fleeting seasons, as he prepares for his wife’s departure – she has been banished for engaging in witchcraft in an attempt to put her husband on the throne. Allie Esiri, described in a Tatler profile as 'a poetry powerhouse', is a former English stage, film and television actress, now a writer. She has hosted poetry events at The Times and The Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, The Sunday Times Festival of Education and The Oldie Soho Literary Festival. Shakespeare for Every Day of the Year is perfect for reading or sharing and brings you Shakespeare’s best-known and best-loved classics alongside lesser known extracts. Esiri’s entertaining and insightful thoughts on each entry will fill your year with wonder, laughter, wisdom and wit.

Esiri has compiled a year's worth of readings from Shakespeare's canon. Along with the reading, she provides further informative text about the writing and the significance for each day. At the end of the book, she provides a synopsis of each of Shakespeare's works along with citations for when each is quoted in the book as well as an historical timeline. This is the perfect book if you find Shakespeare and the language overwhelming. It would be ideal for high schoolers and university students, studying literature. Unfortunately, it ended up not being a great fit for this season. Each day offers a passage from one of Shakespeare's plays or poems, and while Esiri does attempt to give a little explanation for the passage, Shakespeare's work is so much more powerful in context. The girls were excited to revisit passages from plays we've studied, but since we've only read ten of his plays together, there were many passages that they didn't have any context for.
